Brooch!

I forgot to add pictures of my brooch and hair pins, so here you go.

I absolutely love this brooch.

These are nice, but very flimsy.

Who Knew?!

Aurore De La Morinerie

Who knew that finding second hand clothes would be so freaking fun?!?! On Friday, a co-worker and I went to just two thrift shops in our area. I have to admit that at first I was a little intimidated.  I mean, where do you start?  I mean, other people's clothes?  It seemed a little strange at the beginning, but that was before I got started.  Woooow, baby.

I thoroughly enjoyed my jaunt into thrift shopping and I can't wait to go back.  There is SO much to choose from, whether it be clothes or house wares.  And most of the stuff was very good quality.  The places we went were manned by very nice and helpful people.  One of them was even having a kind year end extravaganza. They hand you a grocery bag and anything you can fit in that bag, whether it be clothes, shoes or house wares was $5.00 for the WHOLE bag!! Yes, that’s right FIVE DOLLARS. Be still my frugal lovin’ heart!! Between the two thrift shops I found 2 dresses, 2 shirts, 1 skirt, 1 vest, 4 jackets, 1 vintage brooch, 4 hair pins, 1 pair of Banana Republic shoes, a crystal wine decanter and a candy dish. I paid just under $50 total for it all. Out of all those items 3 clothing items were vintage about 1950-1970 I would estimate. The brooch is also definitely vintage, probably 1950-1960, but I am just guessing.

I seriously can’t wait to go thrift shopping again. What I really need to do is make a list of what I need, but leave myself a little leeway. If I am not careful I will have a closet full of stuff I love, but that isn’t very practical.

My finds:

I know this jacket is a bit different, but I HAD to have it and I got it for just $6.00!!

I didn't buy this chair.  My co-worker gave it to me.  I LOVE it!!

I don't really drink wine, but it's so pretty!

Vintage Blouse

I wonder if they store are open on Monday.  I think I need to consult Matilda, don't you?!

More Dita

There is something so alluring about a woman that really knows, not only what looks good on her, but has her, um "stuff" together enough to really pack for a trip properly.  So many times I have over packed, or under packed for a trip.  It never ceases to annoy me.  This is a recent article called Dita Von Teese: What I Wore, which is her account of what she wore from December 7 - 15, 2011.

This dress is from her collection.

Now, don't get me wrong I know it's her JOB to do this and she definitely rocks at her job, but I wonder how much more put together or just plain confident I would feel if I took a bit more time to put my look together on a daily basis.  I also think it would take less time then I think.  I would pretty much bet it takes just as much time, if not less, than it takes me to rifle through my clothes trying to find something...anything to wear some mornings!!

The next step is to stick to my closet overhaul plans, but I feel like I am in limbo...more about that later.

Vanity, Oh Vanity

Every since I was a little girl I have had a thing for vanity tables. I am sure I must have seen one in a movie and it stuck in my head.  I would find the perfect one for my place if I had the room for one, but I just don't have the space and it pains me no end.  Okay, I am being melodramatic, but you get the idea!

I remember seeing this one in the movie Laura with Gene Tierney, which is one of my all time favorite movies. She has lots and lots of lovely material around hers. It gives it a decadent and feminine appeal in my opinion.  I think that is what I love about them.  There is just something so feminine about the whole idea of a vanity area, hence the name maybe?  lol

I think this is my favorite, although I think I would prefer it is a blond color…maybe. I love that the mirror goes across the entire top of the table.  However, if we are talking about the perfect set up, I think I would prefer a tall backed chair. So many options, so little room!! Ohhhh, if only!!

It seems I am not the only blogger that loves them. Check out this blog and here for some great pictures from movies.

Fashion Icon 4 - Dita Von Tees

Dita Von Tees is one of my guilty pleasure and a definite fashion icon of mine.  There is something about her style that I love and I adore how she throws herself into her style.  I have issues with her profession, i.e. Burlesque, but from a purely fashion and style aspect, wooooow mama, she rocks!!

I was looking for photos to share and I had to stop because there are SO many that I love.  Even when she is traveling she is stylish, yet comfortable.
I love her hat in this photo.

 She even wears flats.

I am adding a bolero like this to Must Haves List.

She hearkens back to a time when women took more time and pride in their personal appearance.  My grandmother used to reminisce about a time when women didn’t even go to the grocery store without looking appropriate.  That didn’t mean they spend an hour in front of the mirror, but they did take the time to look nice.
I really want a sweater like this one!  I love the detailing on it.

Is it just me or do women just not know what looks good on them anymore.  We are so used to buying whatever is in “style” at the moment, that we don’t pay attention if the fashion actually looks good on our particular shapes.  We have never learned to dress in a way that actually looks good on the build/figure we have.  We can’t all look like Dita, but we can all learn what looks good on us.  It take practice to learn what works and what doesn't.  She talked about how important practice is here in this article

My figure “type” is a classic hourglass..  I do not have a significantly smaller waist, like Dita does, but I am still an hourglass.  One of my goals for the future and after getting to my goal weight is to figure out what styles actually look good on me.  Too often I have bought something that is in style, only to figure out it doesn’t look good on my shape.  Baby doll dress for one…
I can't wait to find some really great pieces that are really "me!".  I envy Dita's ability to see and understand what looks good on her and having the boldness to carry it off so flawlessly.
Here are some more photos to give you an idea what I am talking about.  Vavavoom!

 Dita in Paris!!

I have almost this exact dress in red.  I got it from Heart My Closet.

See what I mean????

Fashion Icon 3 - Victory Ford

I admit it. I have watched all the seasons of Lipstick Jungle. Why, you ask? The romance? Well, yes, of course, since I AM a girl. However, I mostly watched it for the clothes. You don't believe me? Have you seen some of the photos? The loveliness makes me giddy. I am SO taking notes, particularly of Lindsay Price's character. Why did they have to cancel this show? It was worth it to keep it on just for the clothes!!! It's been off the air for a couple of years and I am still bitter about it.

One of best parts of LJ was the character Victory Ford. She was a fashion designer and well...need I say more?!

You don't believe me? Take a look at these photos from the show. Be still my heart!

Alright, alright, this is just one because I LOVE her hair!!

The pictures speak for themselves. All the pieces are feminine and elegant and SOOOOO...well, ME! Okay, the me I want to dress like...in a perfect world.

Etsy Goldmine

I love the idea behind Etsy. I mean, who wouldn't love all things handmade. One of the ultimate finds on there is Heart My Closet. One of my good friends turned me onto her and I ADORE all of her stuff.
I recently bought this Unique Galaxy Dress in Deep Red and couldn't have asked for a better dress. I have gotten SO many compliments on it. She gave very clear instructions for measurements and the dress came very promptly.
I would LOVE to see if she can make this dress from VB. I even want it in the teal!
Is it the fitted body and the length of the skirt that makes it so attractive? I don't know, but I LOVE it!!!
