The staff at my work got called into an impromptu meeting on Thursday of last week. From past experience impromptu meetings are never a good sign. We had several lay offs in the last year and a half, so we were bracing ourselves.
What is has come down to, is that in an effort to keep the firm going, the shareholders have decided to cut our hours by 20% (which means our pay as well). So, in effect I now have Fridays off.
The first thing I thought was…I can do this. I think my survivor mode kicked in. I started to think of all the things I could do to make money, all the things I could sell in my house, all the ways I could cut back. I wasn’t panicking, but more of a take action overload. I had to make myself chill out.
That night I went home and did my budget and I should be fine even if I don’t take a second job. I will have less wiggle room, but it’s more of an incentive to stay on budget. The other thing it slows down is my debt snowball. :(
On one hand that makes me sad, but on the other hand…I can still pay my bills!
So, after looking at all this I have realized I need to start saving as much money as possible to put into a bigger emergency fund. I have a baby emergency fund now, but I may need more in the coming months, since we just don’t know what is going to happen.
And as I am trying to look on the bright side, here is a list of good things having Friday’s off means…
I have Preparation Day off!
I have no excuse not to have my house Sabbath ready.
I can volunteer again at the Crisis Nursery, or some other organization.
I can offer my time to help some of the people at church that might need help with babysitting or cleaning.
I can get a second job if I need to.
More time with Baby.
I can sleep in!
I never doubted that God would and will take care of me. I have felt completely comforted through this whole situation, and for all that I am so thankful!
Matthew 7:9-11
"Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”
James 1:2-4
"My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing."

What a good attitude! I know God will provide, and I'm so glad you have faith in him!
I love your positive attitude, and this is a great point:
"I have Preparation Day off!"
I find many Sabbath keepers take this for granted.
Thank you Kate and P&M! :)
