Who Knew?!

Aurore De La Morinerie

Who knew that finding second hand clothes would be so freaking fun?!?! On Friday, a co-worker and I went to just two thrift shops in our area. I have to admit that at first I was a little intimidated.  I mean, where do you start?  I mean, other people's clothes?  It seemed a little strange at the beginning, but that was before I got started.  Woooow, baby.

I thoroughly enjoyed my jaunt into thrift shopping and I can't wait to go back.  There is SO much to choose from, whether it be clothes or house wares.  And most of the stuff was very good quality.  The places we went were manned by very nice and helpful people.  One of them was even having a kind year end extravaganza. They hand you a grocery bag and anything you can fit in that bag, whether it be clothes, shoes or house wares was $5.00 for the WHOLE bag!! Yes, that’s right FIVE DOLLARS. Be still my frugal lovin’ heart!! Between the two thrift shops I found 2 dresses, 2 shirts, 1 skirt, 1 vest, 4 jackets, 1 vintage brooch, 4 hair pins, 1 pair of Banana Republic shoes, a crystal wine decanter and a candy dish. I paid just under $50 total for it all. Out of all those items 3 clothing items were vintage about 1950-1970 I would estimate. The brooch is also definitely vintage, probably 1950-1960, but I am just guessing.

I seriously can’t wait to go thrift shopping again. What I really need to do is make a list of what I need, but leave myself a little leeway. If I am not careful I will have a closet full of stuff I love, but that isn’t very practical.

My finds:

I know this jacket is a bit different, but I HAD to have it and I got it for just $6.00!!

I didn't buy this chair.  My co-worker gave it to me.  I LOVE it!!

I don't really drink wine, but it's so pretty!

Vintage Blouse

I wonder if they store are open on Monday.  I think I need to consult Matilda, don't you?!

Oh. Em. Gee.

Wow!! I love everything you bought!! The shoes are fab and I especially like all the jackets you bought. You know what Clinton Kelley says about jackets.....they are the cornerstone of every good outfit!! The vintage blouse, I KNOW I have seen that print somewhere, maybe on a TV show or in a movie or something. Love it!

You have inspired me.....I am sure there are some awesome thrift/consignment/vintage shops here in FL. I might be able to find some really good things, given the abundance of ahem, senior citizens in South Florida. It seems like a lot of the older generation here are from New York and they appear to be pretty well off....I might be able to find some Chanel!!

That chair is so cute!! PERFECT for showing off your new finds.....

I will do some research on thrift shops here in South Florida and report back!!! XOXO

Drew!

I have recently re-discovered the wonderful world of resale shop shopping! I say "re-discovered" because I stopped going for many years after gaining a lot of weight. Now that I have lost that weight, it has become VERY expensive to clothe my new body!

I have scored HUGE finds at our local Goodwill chain locations. I now scour the stores in a 10 mile radius almost every week, ha ha!

You know what's funny? Although I will squeal in delight when I find something young and funky, my greatest joys have been in finding "classic" things like a fabulous wool/cashmere coat with a rabbit fur collar, a beautiful lilac-colored angora twinset, and a classy long merino wool turtleneck sweater dress. I find my preferred style is somewhere between "what my mother used to wear" and "what my 18 year old daughter wants to snag from my closet". LOL!

And since I also collect bakeware, I have been scoring big in that department as well! Enamel baking dishes, a la classic casseroles, in bright reds and greens and pure white. Beautiful and so inexpensive!

But shhhh! Don't spread the word TOO much! I enjoy this "best kept secret" and really don't want to share, lol!
