Let me start by saying that I love Altoids. I loved them even more after discovering chocolate covered Altoids. So, there I was sitting in services minding my own business when I flipped over my shiny tin of Altoids and glanced at the ingredients, and glimpse the word G-E-L-A-T-I-N! Say what? My beloved Altoids have gelatin in them? The gelatin that is made with pork products? Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
My dad found this on their website today.
The different varieties of our ALTOIDS mints do contain very small quantities of gelatin which is derived from pork. Gelatin does not impart any flavor to ALTOIDS, but it's a necessary ingredient for the texture of the mint. When we use gelatin it is thoroughly purified and dried during its manufacturing process. Our staff is continually looking at alternatives to animal gelatin, but at the moment we've not been able to find a substitute that produces the same quality you've come to love with ALTOIDS.
I do love you wonderful Altoids, but I do not love your unclean food ingredients and so I bid you au revoir, and say rebonjour to Tic Tacs. (see my french classes are working).

YUP! I found this out years ago. Gum and all those melt in your mouth breath products have it too. Also most vitamins. Just gross.
I was most disappointed to find out that there are unclean fish and pork products in wine and other alcohol derrived products. I found only two wines that assured me they don't use such fining ingredients (Bonterra and Figge).
But my neice, Kathy, who works for Bev Mo corporate asked around for me and they said you can be reasonably safe with American and Western European wines. They said the most unreliable wines come from everywhere else (especially eastern Europe).
